Portuguese petrol is more expensive then the others

What are common in countries such as Eritrea, Korea, Denmark and Portugal? According to the report published yesterday by the World Bank (WB) are the economies with gasoline more expensive in the world.

In 2006, the study shows the WB, the litre of petrol was being sold at an average of 1.56 U.S. dollars in Portugal, more than in Finland or Germany. In Spain, the same measure cost 1.15 U.S. dollars, that difference explains, for example, the race of motorists Portuguese on the other side of the border to fill the tanks of cars, advance the "Economic Daily". As expected, the fuel is dramatically cheaper in the oil-producing countries: the case of Venezuela, which appears to lead in the bottom of the table of prices, where the liter costs only 30 cents of U.S. dollars.

The document, a compendium of key indicators of economic and social development, shows that Portugal is still tend to use less energy efficient than 15 years ago: in 1990, with one kg of oil equivalent the economy could produce 7.9 U.S. dollars, wealth (GDP at 2000 prices on purchasing power parity). In 2004, the same amount of energy only has to produce 7.1 U.S. dollars of wealth.
